Eid and Eid Dresses

Eid” is a day of pleasure or celebration.

“Eid”. To me the statement conjures up mental pictures of palms dyed red with henna, the thrill of new Eid dresses put on sooner than crack of dawn in the hurry to Salatul Eid (Eid prayers), and the fragrance of “sevvayian” bubbleing on the oven.

I memorize growing up in my resident Pakistan in the middle of unmitigated relations of fourteen aunts and uncles and no less than 20 first cousins, what a keenly predictable occasion Eid was. After a lengthy month of Ramadan fasting, we would go out to the market on Chaand Raat, the night of moon finding, to buy bracelets and shoes. Our Eid dresses of course, were ready long before, hiding secretly in mother’s cupboard, ready to craft their presentation on Eid morning. Oh the delight of considering the flash of the latest set of Eid dresses, screening off the newest in Eid style as we walked from house to house with hold closes, and shouted of “Eid Mubarak”, or sanctified Eid!

After our shift to the United States, the carnival of Eid took on a entire fresh sense. From being an occasion distinguished with just family unit, it became a group of people-extensive carnival. The Eid breakfast with the family became an Eid brunch with 100 ancestors from the area mosque, and the new Eid dresses were conceitedly dilapidated to the convention center for Salatul Eid (Eid prayers) and displayed among 10,000 fellow Muslim Americans. Our family grew and the pleasure of shopping for new dresses multiplied five crease, with five glossy faces and five couples of enthusiastic eyes dazzling when they saw their new Eid outfits on Eid morning.

Call it chance. The proposal of foundation a group to souk manufactured goods stimulated by the affluent creative heritage of Islam, came to me one Ramadan morning as I put down in bed after Suhur. I was so eager I could not sleep! We would begin with unpretentious outfits and enlarge into home and holiday interior decoration and all kinds of chilly Eid gifts. Eid would be a holiday that would commemorate our Islamic trust held beloved, and our American way of life accepted with arrogance.
